Just 38 league goals and 11 cup goals to choose from, but there were still plenty of Nottingham Forest highlights this season. From Morgan Gibbs-White and Brennan Johnson linking up, to Taiwo Awoniyi finding his shooting boots — here are 10 of the best Nottingham Forest goals in 2022/23
1. Chris Wood v Manchester City
18 February 2023
Probably the goal of the season for many, especially as every Nottingham Forest player had a touch. The eventual league champions went on to win 12 games in a row, proving just how important the noise at the City Ground has been this campaign. Respect.
2. Danilo v Southampton
8 May 2023
The real ‘must win’ game of the season came against bottom club Southampton, and at 3-2 up the Reds were on course to take the three points. And then Morgan Gibbs-White did that flick. Scenes.
3. Brennan Johnson v Leeds United
5 February 2023
The final game of Forest’s early unbeaten run in 2023 and the win came courtesy of a Brennan Johnson volley. An absolute peach of a finish from the edge of the box. Technique.
4. Taiwo Awoniyi v Arsenal
20 May 2023
The Nigerian striker hit six goals in four games to secure the Reds’ Premier League safety, and this was perhaps the most important of the lot. Impact.
5. Morgan Gibbs-White v Brentford
5 November 2022
The newly crowned player of the season scored his first goal in the Garibaldi back in November, showing just why he was our record signing. Magician.
6. Renan Lodi v Tottenham Hotspur
9 November 2022
Just before the World Cup break, the Reds put two past Spurs on their way to a League Cup semi-final. Lodi showed exactly what you’d expect from a Brazilian left-back. Sensacional.
7. Serge Aurier v Chelsea
1 January 2023
Chelsea were not yet a club in full crisis, and Forest were just kicking off their post-World Cup unbeaten run. The turn and volley from the right-back secured a point. Composure.
8. Brennan Johnson v Everton
14 January 2023
Having gone a goal down twice, Forest did what they hadn’t done all season and came back — with both goals from Johnson. The second was the clinical sorting of finishing we’d been missing. Grit.
9. Taiwo Awoniyi v Southampton
8 May 2023
Once he started scoring, he wasn’t going to stop. Having kicked things off in the 4-3 win over Southampton, this second goal was typical of Awoniyi’s focus. The swivel and volley both superb. Determined.
10. Emmanuel Dennis v Newcastle United
17 March 2023
We didn’t see enough of Dennis’s skill this season, but this clever finish was almost enough to gain a point against Newcastle. Chip.
