While the end of the season might have been an anti-climax, there were still plenty of highlights to look back on. From 58 league goals — over a third scored by Lewis Grabban — here’s 10 of the best Nottingham Forest goals in 2019/20
1. Lewis Grabban v Fulham
24 August 2019
No question, goal of the season. Every player at Craven Cottage was involved in this vintage move, for the 2-1 win against the promoted play-off champions, culminating in Jack Robinson’s cross to Grabban. Beautiful.
2. Tyler Walker v Leeds United
8 February 2020
It’s been 1-0 for over an hour against second-placed Leeds and, into added time, Ben Watson punts the ball upfield, Joe Lolley robs Jack Harrison and, with almost the last kick of the game, Walker sweeps it into the Trent End goal. Scenes.
3. Matty Cash v West Bromwich Albion
15 February 2020
It’s the early kick-off at the Hawthorns, Forest are 2-1 down and it’s into added time again… up pops Player of the Season Matty Cash with a thunderbolt to rescue a point. Look at his happy face.
4. Alfa Semedo v Swansea City
14 September 2019
It’s 0-0 at the Liberty Stadium, with just five minutes to go, when Grabban nicks the ball inside his own half and runs and runs… before crossing to Semedo who slots it home. Sublime.
5. João Carvalho v QPR
27 November 2019
We didn’t see much of the Portuguese wizard in a red shirt this season — and we might not see him again — but this was one of a few highlights in 2019/20. Obrigado.
6. Sammy Ameobi v Stoke City
27 September 2019
Slick football and a perfectly-timed run, with a header to match, Ameobi’s goal helped the Reds win 3-2 and briefly top the Championship after nine games. Bravo.
7. Lewis Grabban v Huddersfield Town
28 June 2020
Our penultimate win of the season and, already a goal up, Grabban cushions a header to Ameobi, turns to run, holds his position onside, and continues to run on to the through ball to score with his first touch. Brilliance.
8. Tiago Silva v Cardiff City
25 February 2020
Proof of our occasional free-flowing football begins with Watson (who else?) winning the ball and feeding Silva, who sprays the ball out to the right for Grabban and then times his run to arrive in the box and finish the move. Joyous.
9. Joe Lolley v Luton Town
19 January 2020
Sometimes Lolley’s gonna Lolley. Having scored the equaliser against Luton in the first-half, he latched on to Watson’s sweeping crossfield ball, tormented a defender and hit a dipping shot that the ‘keeper stood no chance against. Determined.
10. Ben Watson v Barnsley
21 September 2019
Red shirts running, Barnsley on the back foot, Cash plays a 1-2 with Lolley and cuts it back to Watson who despatches the ball into the net. Lovely.
